Business Administration – Accounting
Position Description: Newberry College invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Accounting position beginning in August 2021. Candidates need to possess the education, skills, and experience to teach a wide range of courses in Accounting. Preferences given to applicants with experience working closely with and/or instructing undergraduate-level Accounting courses including taxation, auditing, principles of managerial and financial accounting, and intermediate accounting. The successful candidate has a willingness for successfully mentoring and developing students in problem-solving skills with business/accounting majors and non-majors. The successful candidate also demonstrates a willingness to successfully work with diverse populations in traditional and online learning environments. Finally, the successful candidate can engage students through personalized pedagogy to be active participants in their learning, builds confidence in accounting methodologies, and has alternate strategies to help students grasp the material.
Duties and Responsibilities: Teach 12-15 credit hours a semester in undergraduate traditional, online, and/or hybrid environments, and serve as an active participant in the Department of Business Administration undergraduate and proposed graduate program development. The Department of Business Administration is growing rapidly and will soon be launching an online Master of Organizational Development and Leadership and plans to incorporate a Master of Accountancy program. The potential candidate will be actively involved with developing and implementing a vison for the program. This includes assisting the department chair in program-specific duties, including scheduling courses and strategic planning. It also includes leading in-depth assessments of student learning, student advising, curriculum review, and program effectiveness, which leads to improvements in the student learning experience. The candidate will be expected to eventually instruct at the graduate level, and teaching load will be reevaluated once the accounting master's program is launched.
The successful candidate will be an active member of the campus community, which includes being widely available for student help, developing student support programs such as supplemental instruction, and serving on department & institutional committees. Qualifications: Terminal degree in Accounting from an accredited university required. ABD will be considered if degree completion is scheduled within 12 months of hire date. A CPA credential, experience in business/corporate environments, and online instruction are preferred.
