New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation
We want to make your transition into Newberry College as easy as possible. That's why all new students are required to attend orientation, also known as Wolf Pack Welcome. Attending Wolf Pack Welcome will help get you ready for a successful start in college.
Wolf Pack Welcome
Wolf Pack Welcome is our orientation program for freshmen and transfer students. At Wolf Pack Welcome, you will have a chance to experience life at Newberry College, make meaningful connections with your new classmates and learn about campus resources.
This one-day event is designed to acquaint you with campus facilities, faculty, staff and coaches. You also will finalize your academic schedule and meet with a student engagement mentor. The dates Wolf Pack Welcome 2017 are:
Friday, June 23
Friday, July 21
Thursday, August 17
Our faculty, staff and orientation team are ready to welcome you into the Newberry College family. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at (803) 321-5146.
Registration for New Student Orientation
Once you have been admitted and paid the enrollment fee, you will be given access to the "Enrollment Fee Paid" tab in Wolf Den, where you will be able to select your preferred session date.
The earlier you attend Wolf Pack Welcome, the sooner you can take care of the details necessary to enroll. You will also meet other new and current students, so attending an earlier date will allow you the opportunity to start developing those relationships much sooner.
We have designed an orientation program to meet the needs of transfer students. The program includes informative sessions about campus resources, an opportunity to obtain your Newberry College ID card and a meeting with an academic advisor to finalize your course schedule.
For questions or concerns related to transfer orientation or the transfer process, contact the Center for Student Success at 803-321-5362.
The Family Orientation program runs concurrently with the student Wolf Pack Welcome program. Families are encouraged to attend Wolf Pack Welcome to acquaint themselves with Newberry College.Family Orientation is free for two guests/family members of a freshman student. Additional guests are $10 per person (children 5 and under are free). Payment will be accepted on the day of orientation in the form of cash or check (made payable to Newberry College).
Family Orientation sessions include:
• Helping your student through the first year of college
• Applying for financial aid and paying tuition and fees
• Understanding academic policies, graduation requirements and support services
• Learning about life on campus, health services, safety and student success programs
Family members and students will be together for some sessions and during lunch with faculty/staff representatives.
Wolf Pack Welcome would be impossible without our student Alpha Leaders! Alpha Leaders are a team of students trained and ready to help you get started at Newberry College. They are involved on campus in student organizations, Greek Life, athletics and student government association. Alpha Leaders participate in every Wolf Pack Welcome summer session.

Now that you have attended Wolf Pack Welcome and have begun your journey as a Newberry Wolf, you can stay connected to the campus community by keeping in touch with your new friends, your student Alpha Leader and academic advisor by checking your Newberry email account on a regular basis.
Howl Effect is a welcome retreat for all freshmen and transfers held the day after freshmen move-in. This is a mandatory event for all freshmen, but optional for transfer students. It is open only to students.
A variety of social and team-building activities will help you develop friendships that will last your entire college career and beyond. Your Alpha Student Leaders and other faculty and staff will participate in group discussions about transitioning to college and learning what it means when we say “Hail, Scarlet and the Gray.” You'll participate in activities sponsored by the student programming board and conclude the retreat with a candlelight service to officially welcome you as a Newberry Wolf. Our hope is that you will feel at home at Newberry College and be ready to engage in the community with confidence.
