Guests & Accessibility
GUEST TICKETS
Each graduate may bring up to six (6) guests to commencement. Tickets will be required for all guests. There will be no re-entry into the venue once a ticket has been scanned. Children, including babies, count in guest numbers and must have a ticket to attend.
GUEST SEATING
On Commencement Day, guest seating will open at 9 a.m., and guests should be seated by no later than 9:45 a.m.
OVERFLOW SEATING
Overflow seating with a livestream of the event will be available in the Alumni Music Center (AMC) Recital Hall. The ceremony will be livestreamed on YouTube.
SIGN LANGUAGE & ACCESSIBILITY
A sign language interpreter will be available at the ceremony for hearing-impaired guests. Please contact Lisa.Duncan@newberry.edu with questions about guests who need disability seating.
Ticket Requests
Tickets will be issued electronically through the online athletics ticketing platform under the “Tickets” tab. The ticket portal will open Friday, November 21, at 8:00 am. Instructions for how to claim tickets using the graduate’s student ID number, as well as instructions for the graduate line up for rehearsal and the ceremony, will be sent to prospective graduates via email by the end of the business day on November 20.
No flowers, balloons, food, or drink will be allowed in Wiles Chapel.
In the event of rain, the graduate group photo still will take place at 8:45 am, but instead of standing on the steps of Holland Hall for the photo, graduates will meet under Yost Portico at Holland Hall.
Parking
PARKING
Parking will be available throughout campus, but the closest parking lot is the gravel lot behind the stadium. Campus Security will run a golf cart shuttle service. Parking for guests with mobility issues will be reserved in the parking lots in front of Smeltzer Hall and Keller Hall. Guests may be dropped off at Wiles Chapel if reserved spaces are filled.
COMMENCEMENT REHEARSAL
The commencement ceremony rehearsal will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 5. Attendance at rehearsal is mandatory for participation in the commencement ceremony. Graduates with extenuating circumstances that would prevent them from attending rehearsal should email Lisa Duncan for approval to be absent. For rehearsal, graduates will meet in Wiles Chapel for placement in processional order no later than 10:00 a.m.
UNDERGRADUATE SENIOR SURVEY
Each semester, we ask the graduating undergraduate seniors to complete the senior exit survey. This survey must be completed to participate in the commencement exercises, so please make sure to do so as soon as possible. The deadline is Thursday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. Prospective graduates of master’s programs do not participate in the senior survey.
MAILBOX KEYS
Seniors should clear their mailboxes and return mailbox keys to Leslie Sligh in the campus mail center in Wright Hall no later than Tuesday, November 25. Do not return mailbox keys to Housing & Residence Life. A $50 fee for re-keying the mailbox will be added to the student account if keys are not returned to the mail center.
HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE
Graduating students who live on campus must email Residencelife@newberry.edu to sign up for an in-person check-out time. Failure to do so could result in charges being added to your student account that could interfere with your ability to receive your diploma. All graduating students must be out of college-assigned housing by Saturday, December 6 at 2 p.m.
Purchase a Poinsettia
Help the Newberry College Class of 2025 fill Wiles Chapel with the beauty of the season and the thanksgiving for our graduates! You’re invited to purchase a poinsettia in honor of a graduating senior, a beloved faculty or staff member, or anyone who has made your Newberry experience meaningful.
