Guests & Accessibility
GUEST TICKETS
Each prospective graduate will receive six tickets for guests to attend commencement. Children, including babies, count in your guest numbers and must have a ticket to attend. Tickets will be distributed electronically through the online athletics ticketing platform via the student ID number. The ticket portal will open Friday, Dec. 6, at 8 a.m. A link to the portal and instructions for how to claim tickets will be sent to prospective graduates via email by Dec. 3.
GUEST SEATING
On Commencement Day, guest seating will open at 9 a.m., and guests should be seated by no later than 9:45 a.m. No flowers, balloons, food or drink are allowed in Wiles Chapel.
OVERFLOW SEATING
Overflow seating with a livestream of the event will be available first-come, first-served in the Alumni Music Center's West Recital Hall. The link to the livestream will be made available during the week of commencement.
SIGN LANGUAGE & ACCESSIBILITY
A sign language interpreter will be available at the ceremony for hearing-impaired guests. Please contact Lisa.Duncan@newberry.edu with questions about guests who need disability seating.
Parking & Bookstore
PARKING
Parking will be available throughout campus, but the closest parking lot is the gravel lot behind the stadium. Campus Security will run a golf cart shuttle service. Parking for guests with mobility issues will be reserved in the parking lots in front of Smeltzer Hall and Keller Hall. Guests may be dropped off at Wiles Chapel if reserved spaces are filled.
CAMPUS BOOKSTORE
The Newberry College Bookstore will be open Friday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The bookstore is located on Luther Street across from the Kaufmann Hall parking lot.
COMMENCEMENT REHEARSAL
Commencement rehearsal is mandatory for all graduates who wish to walk in the December ceremony. If you have an extenuating circumstance, you must notify Lisa Duncan in Academic Affairs at Lisa.Duncan@newberry.edu by Monday, Dec. 9.
UNDERGRADUATE SENIOR SURVEY
Each semester, we ask the graduating undergraduate seniors to complete the senior exit survey. This survey must be completed to participate in the commencement exercises, so please make sure to do so as soon as possible. The deadline is Thursday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. Prospective graduates of master’s programs do not participate in the senior survey.
MAILBOX KEYS
Seniors should clear their mailboxes and return mailbox keys to Leslie Sligh in the campus mail center in Wright Hall no later than Friday, Dec. 6. Do not return mailbox keys to Housing & Residence Life. A $50 fee for re-keying the mailbox will be added to the student account if keys are not returned to the mail center.
HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE
Graduating students who live on campus must sign up for an in-person check out time with their resident advisor (RA) by Dec. 4. Failure to do so could result in charges being added to your student account that could interfere with your ability to receive your diploma. All graduating students must be out of college-assigned housing by Friday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m.
