The Department of Business Administration prepares students for entrepreneurial leadership through scholastic inquiry, critical thinking, and purposeful vocation in the global economy. Internships and field study opportunities offer students real-world experience with a variety of local firms, and can lead directly to employment after graduation.

The mission of the accounting program is to prepare students for professional careers in public accounting, industry and government, providing not only technical skills for a competitive field, but strengthening teamwork, ethics and leadership skills. Graduates are encouraged to take the Certified Public Accountant Exam.


Oversight for the Accounting program is provided by the Business Administration Advisory Committee, which consists of practicing CPAs and other professionals in the business community. The Department also sponsors one of the country's longest-running chapters of Phi Beta Lambda, the student business club.

Based on the principles of teamwork, ethics and leadership, the baccalaureate degree in Business Administration includes study in the areas of accounting, finance, management, marketing, economics, business law, international business and management information systems. Students will demonstrate oral and written communication skills, as well as analytical decision-making abilities, with an emphasis on creativity and innovation within existing frameworks. Furthermore, reality-based learning opportunities — service learning projects and internships — equip students to be competitive contributors in the local, regional, and global economy.

The health care industry increasingly puts pressure on every segment of the organization to improve outcomes and reduce costs through management initiatives, such as advancements in administrative technology. Health Care Management graduates receive an industry-specific education that can give them a competitive advantage in the job market by helping them develop skills that are valued by employers in this rapidly growing, in-demand field. Graduates are also prepared to pursue graduate degrees in business, health care administration, organizational development and leadership, public administration, and more.

The average salary of health care administrators ranges from $54,000 for the bottom 10 percent of managers up to $150,000 for the top 10% in the field. With rising demand for this occupation, wages are expected to continue to rise.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 23% increase in employment of medical and health services managers through 2022, creating high demand for capable managers in the health care industry.

Courses in the International Studies program are selected from a variety of disciplines, including the arts, sciences, social sciences and humanities. Students have the option to tailor their study to one of three areas of concentration: Business Administration, Foreign Language or Political Science. For majors born or naturalized in the United States, successful completion of a May Term travel abroad course is required, and a similar travel experience is encouraged for international students, to gain a greater understanding of global society.
